What Is TITO?
The ticket system that replaced coin hoppers on most casino floors. Cashing out prints a barcoded ticket carrying your remaining credit, which you feed into another machine or redeem at a kiosk or the cage. Tickets carry an expiry date set by the operator within state rules.
Why this matters for advantage play
TITO is the plumbing an advantage player moves through all evening, and it makes the habits that matter cheap: cash out the moment a play is finished, move to the next cabinet without a trip to the cage, leave no credit sitting on a machine you have walked away from. The failure modes are mundane and expensive — a ticket forgotten in a pocket past its expiry, a printer jam that needs an attendant while you are holding a seat, or credit left in a machine that the next player sits down at. A ticket is a bearer instrument; whoever holds it can redeem it.
TITO GuideRelated terms
Carded Play
Playing with a players club card inserted, so the casino records your coin-in and returns part of it as points, comps and offers. Uncarded play earns nothing and is logged against the machine rather than against you. The choice is yours on every sit-down, and it can differ by property.
Session
A single play period on one machine. AP sessions are typically short — play only while the machine is in your favor, then leave. Long sessions grinding through house-favored territory is gambling, not advantage play.
Walk / Walk Away
The discipline of leaving a machine or a casino when conditions are not favorable. Walking away from -EV situations — even when you're 'due' for a win — is the single most important habit in advantage play.
Handpay
A payout the machine cannot settle itself, completed by casino staff instead. It is triggered either by a jackpot at or over the federal reporting threshold, which requires tax paperwork before you are paid, or by a win larger than the cabinet is configured to dispense. The game locks, a tower light or tone calls an attendant, and play stops until the payout is done.
Common questions about tito
Yes. Expiry periods are set by the operator within state rules and vary widely between jurisdictions. The date is printed on the ticket, and unredeemed value afterwards is handled under state law — often reverting to the operator or to the state rather than back to you.
No. Tickets are tied to the issuing property's slot accounting system, even where two properties share an owner. Redeem before you leave the building.
Ticket transactions are logged, but at machine and ticket level rather than against you personally — unless you redeem at a cage with identification, or had a players card inserted while you played. Carded play is the thing that attaches your name.
