What Is Carded Play?
Playing with a players club card inserted, so the casino records your coin-in and returns part of it as points, comps and offers. Uncarded play earns nothing and is logged against the machine rather than against you. The choice is yours on every sit-down, and it can differ by property.
Why this matters for advantage play
Carding is a plain trade: a share of your coin-in comes back as points and mailers, in exchange for the property knowing exactly what you played, when, and for how long. For an advantage player that ledger cuts both ways. The rebate is real value on plays you were taking anyway, and free play offers are generated from it. The same record is also what a property uses to notice that one patron only ever sits at the accumulator bank and only when the state is elevated. Being carded does not establish that you will be barred, and playing uncarded does not establish that you are invisible — surveillance and slot accounting both predate the card.
How Players Clubs and Comps WorkRelated terms
Coin-In
The total amount of money wagered on a machine, not the same as money lost. A player who bets $1,000 in coin-in may only lose $50 if the machine returns 95%. Used to calculate counter rates and track session costs.
Free Play
Promotional credit loaded to your players account — from a mailer, a kiosk offer, a tier benefit or a host. It plays through a machine like cash but is not cash: the credit is consumed by the wager, and only what those wagers win becomes money you can take away. Offers carry expiry dates and often restrict which machines or denominations qualify.
TITO (Ticket-In, Ticket-Out)
The ticket system that replaced coin hoppers on most casino floors. Cashing out prints a barcoded ticket carrying your remaining credit, which you feed into another machine or redeem at a kiosk or the cage. Tickets carry an expiry date set by the operator within state rules.
Floor Walk
Scouting the casino floor for machines in player-favorable states without playing. Experienced AP players develop efficient walk routes through a casino, checking counters on known advantage play machines.
Session
A single play period on one machine. AP sessions are typically short — play only while the machine is in your favor, then leave. Long sessions grinding through house-favored territory is gambling, not advantage play.
Common questions about carded play
No. The card records play; it does not touch the game's maths. The certified configuration is not reachable from the card reader, and the claim that a machine tightens when a card goes in is floor folklore with nothing behind it.
It is a judgement call, not a rule. The rebate and the offers are genuine value on plays you are taking regardless; the cost is that the property can see your pattern clearly. Many experienced players card everywhere and treat the visibility as unavoidable; some vary it by property.
Coin-in, time on device, which games you played and the results, tied to your account. That is enough to build an accurate picture of how you play, which is the purpose of the programme rather than a side effect of it.
