Bubble Blast Slot Strategy
Bubble Blast by IGT (also known as Spells N Whistles and Trials of Atlantis) features persistent credit-value bubbles that rise one row per spin. Learn the 5x rule and when the math says to sit down.
What Is Bubble Blast?
Bubble Blast is an accumulator slot machine made by IGT. It is also released under the themes Spells N Whistles and Trials of Atlantis — all three versions use identical mechanics and AP logic.
The game features persistent bubbles containing credit values. Each bubble rises one row every spin. When a bubble lands on top of a catcher symbol, the player wins the credit value inside that bubble. The bubble state persists between players, which is what creates advantage play opportunities.
How the Accumulator Mechanic Works
- Rising bubbles: Every visible bubble moves up exactly one row per spin. Bubbles on the top row will exit the reels on the next spin and yield no value.
- Catcher symbols: Certain positions on the reels contain catcher symbols. When a bubble lands on a catcher, the player wins the credit value the bubble contains.
- Upcoming bubbles: New bubbles appear below the bottom row before entering the main play area. Their credit values are sometimes visible, allowing advance planning.
- Persistence: Bubble positions do not reset between player sessions. Every spin — regardless of who is playing — advances all bubbles by one row.
Key Insight
The AP opportunity arises when a previous player has seeded the machine with multiple high-value bubbles that are now close to the catcher symbols. The cost to collect those credits is predictable, and when the total bubble value exceeds the expected cost, the play is +EV.
Identifying +EV State
The core threshold rule for Bubble Blast is the 5x bet rule:
Play Triggers
- The total credit value of all visible bubbles excluding the top row must be at least 5x your bet size
- Example: on a $5 bet, you need $25 or more in total non-top-row bubble value
- If an upcoming bubble below the bottom row has an obscured credit value, consider playing one spin to reveal it — it may tip the total over the threshold
Play / Walk Rules
- Play: Total non-top-row bubble value is 5x your bet or more.
- Walk: Total non-top-row bubble value is below 5x your bet.
- Exclude top-row bubbles: Always subtract top-row bubbles from your count — they provide zero value.
- Check incoming bubbles: Bubbles entering from below the visible area may add to the total. One spin to reveal an obscured value is acceptable when you are close to threshold.
- Re-evaluate after each payout: Once a bubble pays out, the machine state changes. Recalculate before the next spin.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Bubble Blast?
Bubble Blast is an IGT accumulator slot machine also released as Spells N Whistles and Trials of Atlantis. Persistent bubbles carrying credit values rise one row per spin. When a bubble lands on a catcher symbol, the player wins its credit value. The bubble state persists between players, creating AP opportunities.
What is the 5x rule for Bubble Blast?
The total credit value of all non-top-row bubbles must be at least 5x your bet size before the play is +EV. On a $5 bet that means $25 or more in total bubble value. Top-row bubbles are excluded because they leave next spin.
Should I count bubbles on the top row?
No. Top-row bubbles disappear on the next spin and contribute no value. Only count bubbles in rows below the top row. Also check for upcoming bubbles below the visible reel area — those will become active in future spins.
Is Bubble Blast the same game as Trials of Atlantis?
Yes. Bubble Blast, Spells N Whistles, and Trials of Atlantis are the same core IGT mechanic in different themes. The advantage play rules and trigger thresholds are identical across all three versions.
How does Bubble Blast compare to Bubble Mania?
Both games share the rising-bubble accumulator concept but are made by different manufacturers — Bubble Blast is IGT and Bubble Mania is AGS. The core trigger logic (5x bet in bubble value, exclude top row) applies to both, though Bubble Mania also features giant bubbles as an additional trigger condition.
